Inge S. visited Filitheyo Island Resort in the Maldives expecting rest and relaxation but instead experienced a horrifying and traumatic ordeal. During her stay, she was repeatedly approached by a man named Dehnee, a Sri Lankan staff member who claimed to work in the resort’s social media department. According to Inge, Dehnee began by photographing her without consent and persisted in asking to take pictures of her for promotional use, despite her clear refusal. Over the course of several days, he continued to appear near her room, even standing outside at night, prompting her to close her blinds out of fear. On her final night, he approached her again at the bar and asked for her phone number. She ignored him and walked away—but he allegedly followed her to her room.
What happened next, Inge recounts, was a violent and deeply traumatic assault. She states that Dehnee forcibly entered her room late that night, physically overpowered her, and raped her. She describes being gagged, hit, and left terrified and in pain. After the assault, he allegedly told her no one would believe her and to stay silent. The next morning, she left the resort shaken and afraid, unsure where to turn. Now, she is speaking out to raise awareness and demand justice, warning others—especially solo travelers—to be vigilant. Inge is determined to pursue action against her attacker and calls on any other women who may have been harmed by him to come forward.
