Rape at Beaches

CalistaVR, an 18-year-old woman from South Africa working as an au pair in the United States, visited Beaches Resort in Negril, Jamaica during her travels. On July 4th, while attending the resort’s on-site nightclub, Club Liquid, Calista was served a spiked drink by the bartender. Though security was initially present and even checked her ID, they disappeared shortly after she entered. Calista was then sexually assaulted by another guest in multiple public areas, including the pool and nearby shower facilities. Despite the resort’s claim to be a safe environment—especially for teens—no protection was provided when she needed it most.

When Calista reported the assault to her host family and the resort, the resort responded by lawyering up and refusing to assist her. A rape kit conducted at a local hospital confirmed the assault. According to Calista, the resort denied any wrongdoing, bribed witnesses into silence, and refused to release surveillance footage or the suspect’s details. She also states that the resort has a history of similar incidents, including an ongoing court case. Calista’s experience raises serious concerns about the safety of women and minors at this resort and serves as a warning to others considering a stay there.
