Deek2121 shared a harrowing account of being drugged, assaulted, and extorted while celebrating New Year’s Eve 2014 in Cabo, Mexico. Believing they were taking precautions by booking bottle service at a high-end resort club, Deek and their spouse were targeted shortly after settling their bill. Deek was lured into an elevator by security guards, assaulted, and taken to a lower level where police were waiting. After being beaten and handcuffed, Deek was thrown into a police vehicle and taken to jail, where their phone and cash were stolen by guards. Though no charges were presented, officials demanded $1,500 in exchange for release and threatened further harm.
In a terrifying sequence, Deek was forced to accompany the police to various ATMs and later to clubs to process the payment via credit card. Despite being experienced and cautious travelers, they were still targeted, specifically as a Canadian couple, by what they describe as an organized scheme involving club staff, law enforcement, interpreters, and lawyers. Deek warns that this is not an isolated incident but part of a well-orchestrated extortion operation. They urge others to stay away from Mexico, emphasizing that even the most careful travelers can fall victim to professional criminal networks operating under the guise of official authority.
