In 2016, Ashley Ann and her husband went on a cruise that included a stop in Cozumel, Mexico—a place they had never visited before. Wanting to make the most of their time on the island, her husband found a popular beach club called Mr. Sanchos through TripAdvisor, which offered an all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink day pass for $50. Despite the cloudy weather, they decided to enjoy the day, relaxing in tiki huts, eating, and sampling a variety of cocktails. They vividly remembered their server, Francisco, and had a great time—up until the moment they left around 4 p.m. to return to the cruise ship.
After getting into a cab outside Mr. Sanchos, Ashley Ann and her husband lost all memory of what happened next. The next thing Ashley Ann recalls is waking up in their cabin at 11:30 p.m., feeling completely fine—no hangover, no headache, nothing missing. They were shocked to have blacked out for over six hours, especially given that neither of them had ever experienced anything like it, even after heavier drinking in the past. The fact that they made it through customs and onto the ship without remembering any of it still baffles her. Looking back, Ashley Ann strongly suspects they were drugged during their visit to Cozumel—a terrifying and surreal experience that continues to haunt her.
