Two female travelers were attacked in their room just hours after arriving at Udekki Resort in Sri Lanka. At around 1 a.m., one of them woke to find a man inside their bedroom who had been watching them sleep. When she shouted, he jumped on her and covered her mouth while both women fought him off until he ran away. Nothing was stolen, suggesting the attacker came only to cause harm. They believe he may have been someone working at the resort, as the dogs did not bark during the break-in, though they normally react to strangers.
Despite the terrifying experience, the resort’s response was shockingly dismissive. The manager showed little concern, rushed them while they filed a police report, and failed to provide secure alternative rooms. When they contacted the owner to request compensation for trauma and counselling, she refused, claiming the matter was “out of her hands.” The women are now trapped in a stalled legal case in Sri Lanka, with no justice or support from the resort.
